Jake is a musical theatre artist in New York City. He is a composer, lyricist, bookwriter, pianist, dancer, educator, and more. He is on faculty at Berklee College of Music in the master's program at Berklee NYC. Jake is an Assistant Professor in the Writing & Production for Musical Theater department teaching Lyric Writing, Design Collaborations in the Theater Space, and Score Lab feedback seminar. Jake completed a Post-Master's Fellowship at Berklee NYC. Jake is currently developing his original musical Through the Frame with multi-platinum songwriter Alexis Kesselman. He was a finalist for the Fred Ebb Award and is a two-time semi-finalist for the Eugene O'Neill National Music Theater Conference.
Jake has written and performed several original cabaret acts at 54 Below and the American Repertory Theater in collaboration with Sarah Naughton, including their political satire, Javanka. Their musical Trapped in the Closet was the pilot episode of the The Micro-Musical Show podcast. They are currently developing a new original musical act, Trying, about Sarah's pregnancy journey.
Jake’s short dance film Ode to the Singing Butler, which he directed, choreographed, produced, scored, and edited, was recognized at film festivals around the country. His original classical score won 1st place at the Golden Key Composition Competition in Vienna, Austria.
Jake has also appeared onstage in many productions. Highlights include performing on tour with A Chorus Line in Tokyo, appearing in the world premiere production of Chasing the Song at La Jolla Playhouse, portraying Peter in Peter in the Wolf at BAM, playing Andy Lee in Randy Skinner's production of 42nd Street at the Ogunquit Playhouse, and appearing in the immersive production AcousticaElectronica at the American Repertory Theater and House of Yes.
Originally from outside of Boston, Jake began his artistic pursuits studying classical piano and music composition at the New England Conservatory of Music. He also grew up dancing, training in tap, jazz, ballet, and modern, winning national competitions.
Jake earned his M.A. from Berklee NYC studying Writing and Production for Musical Theater. Jake received his B.A. from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where he studied musical theatre performance, writing, and producing. At NYU, Jake trained with Fiasco Theater, exploring collaboration within the individual disciplines of musical theatre and how they synthesize to tell a story that resonates with an audience.
